Why this project?
Nict Nact is a project to help young people's skills grow. It acts through two dimensions: a dedicated social network and a creative space of contamination equipped with equipment and tools to experiment with digital transformation.
It responds to the need to stimulate dialogue and generational change, encouraging the involvement of young people in local progress. It is made up of two elements, a virtual space consisting of a dedicated social network and a living lab equipped with a studio for creating multimedia content, a digital signage system, prototyping systems, robots and digital equipment.
The context: the
Metropolitan City of Catania
Catania 328,000 young people (metropolitan city). A decline in youth employment and a low turnover of the working population can be observed over the 20-year period. The elderly working population grows and the ratio of those who retire to those who enter the labour force.
The city aims to be a technology hub; generational change is crucial for development through the new skills of young people.
Synergy with
the University of Catania
The University represents the highest expression of knowledge in our territory, and is involved in Nict Nact for the creation of dissemination activities and experimental applied research that can be carried out in the incubator. The synergy with the University includes the idea of considering Nict Nact's incubation spaces connected to act synergistically with the university's research development and incubation activities (university spin-offs).
